What Is This Part? (Oil Filter Adapter)

Recommended Posts

timb1046

I have a 1.9 mi16 from a BX, however, attached to where the oil filter screws on is one of these (see below picture) what does it do? do I need it? And where do I get a new one as mine is damaged. (Has a hole!)

At a guess it's a heat exchanger?

Many thanks in advance.

There looks to be a hole just outside of the filter seal area.

You can get away without one, you'll need the shorter threaded tube so you can screw a filter directly onto the engine block. Probably easiest to just replace it though, try a wanted ad.

The Mi16 already has the thread sticking out of the block. The centre bolt for the heat exchanger is female at that end.

as Jackherer points out there is a hole on the edge of the filer seal area. this causes oil to get pumped out of the engine. I have a short thread which the heat exchanger screws to already. (as Ryan says) this means that as it isn't vital I will screw the filter directly to the block and connect the two coolant pipes together.

Thanks for all of the help :)
