What's The Highest Speed You've Had From Your 205?

Recommended Posts

forbeslongden

Hey guys,

I've been wondering what the sort of top speed expected from a 205 GTi should be, I ask this because the other night I managed 120mph out of my standard 1.6 -which almost certainly wasn't a public road or breaking speed limits- and it seemed like there was still more to give from it, obviously this isn't a speed I usually would push the car to and feel particularly safe doing but it's interesting to know that my car can comfortably do that sort of speed.

What's everyone else getting out of theirs? Stock or modified.

Uh-oh :/ I'm not endorsing anything like that but everyone must have been -slightly- curious as to what they are capable of? Hopefully I won't get too many backs up :o

Yeah great idea, admitting to license losing speeds on a public forum.

I have touched a sat nav 132mph in my 205 AT THE NURBURGRING

Now I don't believe you wanted to do that did you? ( in the style of a Harry Enfield character)

Was that a standard set up? 1.9 / 1.6?

theoretical top speed for an MI16 engine @ 6500 rpm on an MI16 box on 185 55 15 is 132.

a good 16v engine will keep on going to the limiter if given enough space, an early RFS engine for example will wind round to 7450 rpm, on an MI16 box thats 151 mph.

/thread.

On an aerodrome track i can get 118mph from my 2.0 8v turbo cti which is exactly the same it did "eventually" with the 1.9 that used to be in it, it did 128mph in the original car

No idea about ther rpm as it doesnt work

My 205 will quite happily do silly speeds, it always amazes me how stable it feels at high speeds. 150mph feels just as stable as 100mph.

This was in 2009, although the rev counter wasn't connected so most people seem to think it is fake for some reason.

TBH

I'd say because it doesn't look like it's going that fast - maybe it's the camera angle ...

134 in a standard 1.9 8v (according to Garmin)

It's amazing how handy large SUVs in Germany can become.

Provided you follow them closely...... :P

140+ (on the clock) lovely sunny morning over an undisclosed road. The wind noise after 125 is horrendous and the wipers flap about too much, I always try to stay under 120 for that reason.

zx 16v, git6 engine, 149.

205 1.9 8v, motronic MP3.1, 139.

Theoretical top speeds on the limiters on my 195 50 15 tyres ;)

I think James Lumley had a susprise in his 205 stage rally car when he buzzed the limiter in 5th then later realised the kind of speeds the thing was doing, I think it was something like an Mi16 box and an 8k limiter, 306 BTCC lump on jenveys, if I'm correct with that gearbox, its north of 160

Tu 24 205 Rallye 121mph on the A303 as measured by Hampshire Police over 2 and a bit miles. They caught me but not the Suzuki GSXR I was attempting to follow. Ended up with three police cars on my tail and being boxed in by them, although by then I was doing 40mph and was pulling in to a lay by. Not big or clever and caused me shed loads of grief and a court appearance. The nice policeman told me it was a record for a 1300cc car.

Biggles, can you see the satnav? not sure if its very clear, but the satnav was saying 156mph, you might note also the speedo being sat on the trip reset pin. We had it sat on the limiter in 5th, actually on the autobahn, much to the surprise of many many cars, porsche gt3, golf r32, sartys 2.2 ;) Watch the video again and note that we are passing cars as if they're doing 30mph, but they're actually doing 80ish. crazy crazy engine for a 205.

george your memory seems a bit soft, do you not remember it veering across the road? we had 2 bolts left in the subframe en route to zolder... haha
