Torque Settings Wishbones

Recommended Posts

dobboy

Just looking at Haynes, and spanner checking my car.

Haynes says,

Lower suspension arm pivot bolt 35nm

Lower suspension arm REAR pivot bolt (GTI models) 78nm

A bit confused, should front be 35nm and rear 78nm? Even though the first part doesn't say GTI models?

yep, rear bolt is larger, front bolt is the same for wishbone and tca arrangement.

Suspension torque settings

They are also better torqued when the weight of the car is on its wheels to avoid inducing twist into the bushes which can quickly ruin them.

I usually do this with a jack under the wishbone at the balljoint until it starts to lift the car off the axle stand & then torque them up.

Without doing the above or something similar, I use ramps to drive onto and tighten up, you will trash the bushes in a very short space of time.
