Heat Shield Plate Above Rear Exhaust Box

Recommended Posts

Phil205

Hi,

There is a tin 'heat shield' plate above the rear exhaust box.

This was hanging off and sitting on the rear box.

Has anyone had this happen ? Do I need to get a replacement and get it fitted or is it not too important ?

Does anyone have a spare plate in good condition ?

Are they difficult / tricky to fit ?

Thankyou,

Phil

It's very common, the heat shield is aluminium and corrodes around the steel fixings. Often they are either missing totally or hanging on by a thread.

Peugeot obviously deemed it necessary but to be honest I don't think it would cause any massive issue not being there.

Fitting depends on whether the two fixing nuts will come undone or not. You may be able to refit yours using some repair washers (penny washers).

Thanks Tom,

Are those two fixing nuts just for the plate or are they holding anything else together ?

I suspect they will be hard to shift.

Just for the heatshield. Give them a soak in penetrating oil, you may be suprised. Both came undone on my car recently.

I am lucky to know an ex Aston Martin panel beater who made me a copy heatshield out of 1 piece of aluminium.
