205 Mi16 1.9 Power Steering Pump. Problem

Recommended Posts

Please excuse me if in wrong section my cti has a mi16 1.9 from a citreon bx gti the power steering pump when engine is cold screams it becomes less as engine warms up also on both full lock I purchased a 205 gti pump but it appears different looks the same bar pulley wheel that's about double the size it should be. Would it be a bearing going in pump belt is on max adjustment and don't think its air in system it doesn't appear that you can put the pump pulley that's on my car on the new pump. And can't seem to find what pump me car is running. Has any one else come across this problem. Am I right in thinking pulley wheel is not inter changeable between pumps looking at it it seems large pulley is fixed to cam on my car and a smaller pulley to steering pump. Not like say a1.9 /I.6 gti any idears

I'm not sure that's right Dan.

BX will have a high-pressure hydraulic pump whereas 405's will have a PAS pump, and presumably the belts are different. A 205 installation will use the 405 setup.

Servicebox lists the belt as 530mm long for an XU9J4 405 Mi16 and it's not listed as NFP - part number 456912. It's the same belt that drives the vacuum pump on a 205/309/405 XUD7 diesel - a common car still on the road - so I'd be surprised if it's genuinely not available from a motorfactor.
