Supporting Gti6 Engine Using Sump/jack

I need to remove the top engine mount from my '6 engine. Would it be okay to support the engine from underneath, using the sump, with a trolley jack, perhaps with a block of wood to spread the load?

No problem I have done the same many times. Use a good block of wood.

depends on your jack, if you have one with a saddle pad no need for a block of wood

Also fine to jack the engine up and down to help with what ever you're doing.
