Stupid Warning Lights Help!

Recommended Posts

Guys I have come across a recent issue with my 205 gti 1.9 (1993) anyway I have replaced my oil pressure sender unit as it wasn't reading and now get good oil pressure on gauge (as it should be)..

However I have been cleaning around the engine bay and generally tidying things up.

And now the gauge wont move when engine is running and not only that the oil pressure light is on permanent and water temp light is on permanent. along with the stop engine light.

The water temp gauge itself works fine also the oil temp gauge itself works fine..

I have checked the wires that I know of ie the 1st from the sump upto the back of the block with the 2 connectors I have followed them around and double checked the send units at the front of the block?/ I have also cleaned out the big plug connector next to thermostat??

Now what I have missed is there a relay or something some were? Its doing my head in :-(

Cheers fir any help/advice upfront :-)

Probably switched the oil pressure guage and light wires around - that'll make the guage read max with engine off and nothing with engine on, and make STOP, oil pressure and water temp lights come on (dimly with hot oil at idle)

Cheers Anthony got that too exactly too when I switched the wires over but it wasn't that :-(

Oh a plus note I tried somat I had overlooked and it fixed it straight away!

Basically it has had an aftermarket oil cooler fitted and and then for what ever reason has had the cooler took off and just the 2 hoses that joined in a loopback into the filter area just before the filter...

In my infinite wisdom to tidy things up I though I would get rid of these 2 looped hoses and blank them off with blanking nuts....

Anyway I fitted the looped hoses back went to start it up and wallah no warnings and nice oil pressure readings again!!

erm, yeah you wouldn't have had any oil pressure or flow whatsoever with those ports plugged!

hope it wasn't run for long.

The two hoses you see just loop into each other they are what I blanked off... I only ran for 30 secs tops at idle in the garage.

oil goes pump-cooler-filter-engine.

with the blanks it goes pump-blank (relief spring goes wtf and dumps back into the sump)

I.e, it doesnt go.
