Xu10 Engined 205 Broken Gearbox Replacement Headaches! Ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

205 gti with xu10 306 gti engine...

My pals gearbox went last year and we are trying to fit a new one. He got a xsara one to fit as told it had one in there already. Going on what was learned on here we removed the xsara diff from the new box sourced a new 205 diff and put the xsara crown wheel on to it and popped it back in...all good.

Problem arises when we tried to fit the 205 shafts to test...they don't go all the way in the diff properly though a spare xsara driveshaft we have goes all the way in as it should.

I thought the point of fitting the 205 diff to the xsara box enabled the 205 shafts to be utilised? Have I missed something here? Excuse my ignorance....I did loads of searches last year when it went and thought I had it sussed.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?....greatly appreciated

Hud

I think the only problem here is the "205" diff you sourced is not a "205" diff!!

Mine has xsara vts box with xsara cwp and tranx diff and no probs, pretty sure all PSA diffs fit all PSA shafts or most anyway. You got pics?

All LSD's (other than ZF) will take any BE fitment driveshaft.

Standard diffs are different between 205/309 and later models like 306/Xsara - 306/Xsara shafts will fit a 205/309 diff, but not the other way around, hence the need to use a 205/309 diff (or shaft the inner CV to a 306/Xsara type) when fitting a later gearbox to a 205.

Tom's on the money with this one I'd say - your supposed "205" diff is actually a later 306/Xsara one.

At least being eBay you should be able to get your money back as being "not as described" if you paid by Paypal.

standard planet gears are 14 / 10 tooth, 77mm, uprated diff is 13/9 and 84mm, same 24 splines but due to the gears being larger and further apart the spline is shorter on the left hand shaft.

uprated MA is also 14/10 and 77mm, but a press fit crownwheel and a smaller 22 spline shaft.
