Sheared Water Pump Bolt

Recommended Posts

Before I go ahead and do anything with said bolt just wanted to know if there were any other ways. Looking at it drilling it out looks the best option for removal. Don't think getting a bolt in the other side and pushing out will work, would be nice though!! :D

Hopefully the image below will work!! I am open to other suggestions! Not quite enough to get a set of grips on to the bolt to turn it out... :(

Possibly if the weld went inside the nut... no access to welder though at this current time... :(

yup, that's probably what I would try too, an M8 nut and fill the middle with weld, the expansion and shrinking with the heat can break the bond of corrosion.

wheereabouts in bristol?

Hmm sound as though that could be the best idea then.. might just leave it until my mate comes round to do the sill work with his welder.. There are a few other jobs I can be getting on with anyway! :)

Thanks though guys!!

I've drilled one out and helicoiled it before, it took bloody ages but it can be done.

It's definitely worth trying to weld a nut on if you can though.

you could try drilling a small hole and using an easy out but it looks like a small bolt that could brake an easy out if you used to much force and if that brakes in there then your really in the sh!t.

best bet seems to be the welding nut option

May be worth a quick try and see if you can tap it round with a decent centre punch, looks as though someones had a bit of a go at it anyway?

Certainly worth giving it a good clean out round the edge of the thread with a sharp pick and clear as much of the cr@p out the way of the thread when it does come out.

I thought it looked like someones tried to put a slot on it to loosen it with a driver.... Looks like hacksaw marks adjacent on the block.

Yeah a friend thought it might work.... might give it a bit of a heat tomorrow as have a heat gun around. Worth trying even if it does fail!!

If you can try run a bit of a nut up what's poking out, but i think its more than likely to chew, but a bit of heat/a roasting might help. Make sure you leave something to weld onto.

Maybe drill it out, and re-tap it to M8 afterwards?

Whoop! Got the remains out today!! Bit of plus gas and heat from a gun and the bolt turned right out of there with a screwdriver in the slot!!

Thanks once again for suggestions!! :)

Yeah well done. Fortunately iirc they bolts don't get torqued up very high at all. 30nM or something.

Definitely got lucky there! Least it means I can get the engine turning over again and sparking again when I get some new plugs!

Now it's the other job I'm not looking forward to, the sill repair!! :/
