Solid Alloy Vs Solid Rubber - Lower Engine Mount

Recommended Posts

Bakes100

Hello,

Hopefully a pretty simple one this...

Is there much difference between the solid alloy & solid rubber (BakerBM) lower engine mount bushes in terms of NVH?

My 205 Mi16 is currently running the solid alloy bush and it feels like it transfers a lot more vibration than the group N style one I had on my previous Gti6 engined 205.

Could it be due to this bush? I have checked clearances on exhaust system etc. and nothing seems to be obviously touching the chassis.

Thanks

Stuart

Well in all fairness the solid alloy one should not be called a bush. Its only purpose is to provide a fiximg point for the fork while cancelling the bush. It's simply a reduction from 100mm to a 12mm hole. It's down to the small bush in the subframe to asorb all vibration and I doubt it does a good job of it.

As long as the group N one is made of rubber and hot hard plastic or polyurethane, I'm guessing it will absorb more viration than the solid alloy one.

I realise on paper there would be far more vibration transmitted but in a like for like comparison is it that noticable?

Basically I dont really want to go to the trouble of changing to a solid rubber mount if it makes naff all difference

Personally not a fan of solid mounts. Engines move and vibrate, dampen them through rubber mounts to avoid transmitting them onto the chassis.

Harder rubber ones FTW

I once had a solid alloy one years back, cracked the engine mount. Ran a baker one since no problem.

I'd swap back to the Hard Rubber one's, less strain on chassis and less vibe's by far

I ran a solid nylon one for a bit, it cracked and broke the lower fork. Let go about 1mile into an event, I could have cried, never again, don't bother
