Bottom Engine Mount Bush Upgrade - Firmer .

Recommended Posts

The standard/original bottom engine mount bush is perished on my 309 GTI and will be replaced , I may be fitting a Magnex manifold so a stiffer rubber bush is required to stop it hitting the tunnel when the engine moves . The obvious solution is a BBM solid rubber bush , I have one already fitted to a spare mount but have used them before and they are very harsh , as this is a road car I want a bit more refinement .

Is there a suitable replacement that is halfway between the 2 options , it is effectively a void bush and I wonder if there is a bush from a specific model that has more rubber and less void .eg 306 P bushes from a Berlingo iirc which is a firmer option than std .

I drilled holes in the rubber of my last BBM bush to reduce the horrendous vibration in the car , could do this again with even more holes I suppose .

Just turn the std one 90 degrees in the housing, a good halfway house, or there are the powerflex things

Persevere with the BBM bush is my advice. Yes they rattle everything to death when new but son settle down.

I fitted a good standard bush 90 degrees round on my Goodwood a year or two ago , I have the std cast iron manifold so did not need to do it I just wanted that firmer feeling through the drivetrain .

I might have to stick with the BBM bush and drill a few holes in the rubber to soften it a bit .

Thanks .

I must admit that I've never found the lower BBM Group N bush on its own that harsh at all and is what I tend to run all my 205's, but the full Group N kit is a bit much for a road car I agree and is borderline unpleasant when it's first fitted.

Everyone is different though and some are more sensitive to NVH than others.

I've cant say I've had any complaints with the BBM GrpN setup either tbh and I've had the whole kit on my car for a few years now.

Yes it is a bit harsh in the interior at first but I found it did settle after a few runs / miles were added to the car. Although on saying that I did come into 205 ownership having had a full-on race spec engine mount setup on my road going Mk1 Focus RS and those are so much harder than that of the 205 ones, so I guess I was already a bit used to the vibration.

I'm group n all round.

Firms it all up nicely.

I did get rid of group n rubbers in the suspension top mounts though.
