Burning a bit of oil might just be worn valve stem oil seals, which wouldn't be too hard/expensive to put right.

Yo RichF,slick was around when i started driving in the mid seventies(had a mk1 mexico then) and it got good reviews, you would have thought 40 years on they would have gone bust or improved it,regards neil.yeah your right about the valve stems,im not very confident about taking the head off and having a go

It used to come with a cool sticker back in the day, it was the only reason most people bought it.

Very true that, these days on ebay its a free gift with whatever you buy, the chinese have this down to a fine art.

Ametech engine restorer is another can of snake oil to steer clear of. Ecotek valves and 'uprated' fuel pressure regulators fall into the same category too.

I use fuel pipe magnets. Reckon they give me atleast 10hp of torque.

Dunno about fuel magnets, but i got a magnetic filter fitted to my dads central heating return pipe, for the first few weeks it was gathering lots of nasties from his old rads and pipework and stopping them going through his new boiler. Great simple invention!

A company I used to work for/with got duped into them magnets on a scania v8 truck of theirs, dont think they were cheap either. But the old boy in charge was losing his marbles tbh company got bought out and I think the magnets are still "doing there job" on the beast

You could try Redex Oil Treatment; I used it in my V12 and it really did save me many gallons of oil. Don't confuse it with the petrol treatment (which is what everyone thinks of with Redex), the oil treatment comes in tins and is really thick, gloopy stuff. When your oil consumption is around 100 miles per gallon, which it was, this stuff really helped...before the Redex, I reckon the car was more expensive to run on oil than petrol, even though it was only returning around 3 to 4mpg at that time.
