Top Tip: Don't Be A Dipstick!

Recommended Posts

James Cornell

Just to try and save someone else the frustration and so you can all have a good laugh (at my expense)

When putting the engine back into the car, make sure you don't leave the dipstick on the side where you can't see it...and thus do not fit it ????

I had everything g put back together after and engine out on my 205 and when I had put the oil in I went to check the dipstick and or was not there...not a problem I thought until I realised it is air filter and exhaust manifold off to get the tube into the block ????

That language was colourful

Mmm Alternator bolt is more annoying. Especially when you've returned the engine crane!

At least you can just take the mounting off to refit the alt bolt...I also did that on rebuild no1 ????

I see your amusing cock ups, and I raise you...

Mi16 transplant, with a 1.6GTI gearbox and new clutch, into my CTI many years ago, the culmination of months of work (as all these things always are)

Engine ran perfectly following fitting. Great.

Unfortunately it turned out that I had not fitted thrust bearing correctly. Could not engage gears nor take up drive properly.

Yes, that was annoying...

I fitted a new HG last year because of a water leak...and did not know about the dreaded spacer on the water pump Head bolt...block smashed...fail!

Nope - on an Mi16 you have to lift the engine back out to get the long bolt into the block.
