Front Door Hinge Bushes

Recommended Posts

K22PUG

Hello

To remove the door from my 1992 Gti i had to drill out the lower hinge pin as the pin was corroded so badly the head sheared off.

In doing this I damaged the bush.

It looks like the bush is made from a sheet of phosphor bronze.

Is this true and if so can they be purchased or must they be fabricated from a sheet of material.

Please help.

It sounds to me like someone has tried to repair a worn hinge before with some shim brass or something. Best way to repair really is to drill out the hinge then make a bush to push in that returns the hole to the original size. Fit a new pin and that's the job sorted. Making a bush is an easy job for anyone with a lathe so long as you sketch up the dimensions of the sleeve you need.

It is the same bush as used on the 405 for example.

They can be purchased from Peugeot.

I suppose you have the bolted type of hinges and not the split pin type which was used on the earlier cars.

I have them on my newest 205 too, and also had to drill out one bolt, damaging the hinge slightly :/

I can try to get the part number of those bushes. I have some lying in the garage.

Seems to be completely hit and miss what was on the later cars from what I've seen.

I've had Ph2's with both style of hinge bolts/pins - my current '92/J has the roll pins for example.

I have a 1994 205 which still uses roll pins.
