Wiseco Pistons.

Recommended Posts

ive started to plan my forged xu engine build. I'm currently looking at piston and rod choice. Has anyone had any experiences with wiseco items? Also k1 connecting rods also owned by wiseco. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pain in the arse and cheap, Been given a engine to re-build with them in, 4 weeks down the line and still trying to get rings, But he doesn't have the money for quality pistons from Omega or JE which are the only ones I use as I know they work

Quality wise, as always you pay for what you get is all I will say, And trying to get the ring's I need is taking a silly amount of time from the importer's so it's not something you need, turns a simple job into a pain in the backside

I've used Wiseco and never had any problems, but I've always used my own designs rather than something off the shelf. I had a working relationship with a guy at Wiseco but he's since moved on. You're welcome to use my part numbers if you like. Rings are nothing special. Just find a Total Seal or Speed Pro dealer. The package is normally 1.0mm x 1.2mm x 2.8mm, along with the piston diameter. eg 8650XX.

10686-5216 : 83.50, 37.5mm comp height, 22mm pin, 2cc dome, approx 11.25:1

10686-9295 : 84.00, 37.5mm comp height, 22mm pin, 2cc dome, approx 11.25:1

10686-3645 : 86.50, 39.1 mm comp height, 23mm pin, flat top

10686-7080 : 87.00, 39.1 mm comp height, 23mm pin, flat top

Beware that whilst the valve pockets are slightly deeper than stock, I keep them minimal so I don't waste CR. I machine to depth to match the cams chosen with the build. They are also larger in diameter to suit 36.50 and 30.00 valves.

Cheers.

Ash- thanks for the offer but I'm needing lower compression or oem compression Pistons

Ok, can sell rods separate if you want.

None of those probably going to suit then, as they'll push the CR above 10.4:1. You need something with a dish.

I did think this after looking into those numbers. I might have to go with there off the shelf items.

I'd be inclined to ask them to use Peter's drawings but alter the dome, that way you know that the pin heights and valve cutouts are correct, the tales I've heard of the cheaper pistons on the market not being fit for purpose off the shelf are unbelievable.

fair point,

I think when the time comes ill ask peter nicely if he can help me out with measurements etc as it sometimes gets over my head.

Which part number did you use? I'm not 100% I'll be able to use them as they use a 22mm pin and not a 23mm as on the xu10

Stef, sounds like you're using XU10J4 rods (23mm pin & 152mm-centre to-centre). The XU10J4RS rods are 22mm pin & 158mm centre-to-centre. Maybe Black_Mi16 has some J4 rods re-bushed to suit the 22mm Honda pin?

You'll need to design your pistons around whichever rods you're going to use for compression height, valve cut outs, head gasket thickness and cam selection.

I needed custom rods as the T16 crank is 26mm wide at the big end. so bought billet Pauter ones.

Can't remember now if I bought 158 or 159mm ones, but the pistons sit flush, and I believe it might have been 159mm.

Pistons only from 87mm bore upwards, so you need an overbore.

Mine were the K622M87, 21cc dish and 87mm bore.

Yes your correct wiseco's site isnt very clear which only leave me with custom pistons from them and to source some rods.

I'm getting PEC rods (158mm c-to-c, 22mm pin), 88mm diesel crank & having Peter's custom design for the pistons with cam specs & head gasket thickness provided.

Off the shelf stuff is a bit like a generic ecu tune rather than something which is exactly mapped to your engine spec.

youd be better off with stock rods than pec.

I have been using the hated Wossner pistons and PEC rods (and KS liners) for about three years now in my 8V 1.9 tuned to 168 Hp and no issue till now.
