Recommended Posts

hi as above just wondering if a 205 middle section fits directly to a gti6 manifold as i need a new system from the manifold back on my 205 gti6 its an 87 so doesnt have a catalyst either thanks in advance

Afraid not, it needs to be shortened and a Lambda boss fitted

I took my downpipe to Miles along with the GTI-6 manifold and he did the mods for me, everything dropped together perfect afterwards, manifold clearance etc and the middle and rear sections all lined up spot on.

I can understand you maybe not wanting to spend money paying someone (I'm the same) but at times its easiest, I'd rather not be on my back struggling with the downpipe spring things any more than once or twice in my whole life ;-)

PS if you read this Miles and he does send you the parts my cut is 5% :-)

although i dont think removin the manifold and sending it away with a new middle section will be my best option i do believe that my engine is fitted without tilt and the without manifold modification and it just clears the bulkhead fine would it be possible to angle a mid section without the manifold? or should i just get someone to do it locally

just a thought mine is a pre 89 (ph1) so it has a downpipe which i would have thought would be already angled to fit a 205 exhaust so surely a middle section should just fit directly on?

If your manifold doesn't touch the bulkhead and there's reasonable space around it I guess its already been modified.. or the engine has been tilted... or whoever fitted it got very lucky!

My standard 205 downpipe was too long for the GTI-6 manifold so was shortened to make it end where it should end with the standard 8v engine.. this way the rest of my system went on without mods.. I think I'm right in saying that as well as being made shorter the flange went back on at a slightly different angle too so it met up with the manifold nicely.. also don't forget you want the lambda boss too..

Replied to your message :)

You will never get a std manifold to fit it's that far out even with the 205 build quality :o so the manifold will be done or the engine tilted, I know when I was doing all the templates for this it was pretty s*itty as I hate exhausts at the best of times

lol i hear what you say but what im saying is i believe my 205 down pipe which joins the 205 middle section to the gti6 manifolf has been modified already i didnt realise that it had the downpipe until i did a bit of digging and thought it was the the 89< setop where the mid conects sraight up with the manifold would i be right i saying this?
