Getting Attention...?

Recommended Posts

macaroni

My 205 seems to be getting an increasing amount of attention wherever it goes!

In the last week 3 people have commented on it (positively of course), each of them asking "is it a 1.6 or 1.9?", despite it saying on the rear badges.

I am amazed that in this era of nigh-on 300bhp hot hatches, a 27 year old french shopping hatch gets so much love.

I also have a Maserati and that doesn't get anything like the amount of admiring looks as the 205.

Anyone else finding their car is getting respect?

Antony

Maybe its your own natural good looks or if your other car is a Maserati its the size of your wallet ! :)

I wonder if the recent 208 GTI t.v. ad campaign has anything to do with it?

The 205 still looks better however :-)

Nothing better than a 'nice car mate' shout out from a stranger

Sadly, sp_en_ny, I wasn't actually in the car for the most recent shout out, so it can't be me, and the Maserati is a cheapo 3200gt, so it isn't the wallet either.

I agree lightflow, especially as one of the shout outs was from a black guy..."wicked wheels mate"! I don't know why, they are just standard 1.9 alloys...

"wicked wheels" being yoof speak for "I say, that is a fine vehicle"..

I suspect the "wicked wheels" refers to the whole car rather than just "da rims"

But I just looked up "rim" in the urban dictionary and that's not what quite what I was thinking :Dhttp://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rim

rimming lol...... ive had a lot of the 1.6 or 1.9 convos and nice emotions revealing 2.0 turbo, also had a few "look at that cant afford a new car" dumbass's too  despite it having a no expense spared restoration (slight porky there) and looking brand new.

I've had my GTi back on the road for a couple of months having not used it for five years. I've had more positive comments in that 2 months than I remember ever receiving before. Most recently a chap came over to talk to me while I was filling up at Sainsbury's. "That's a lovely little car, I always wanted one of those."

I know I'm biased but perhaps people have started to realise that modern cars are less interesting than fridges.

I'v had it since I bought the car so wouldn't say it's to do with the add, I had 3 offers to sell my car when I lived in scotland. People really do love them. I get sick of tits in corsa's and fast(ish) focus's wanting races tho, im at the point I cba wasting the fuel cos they're too heavy to keep up on the roads round here

Always get from blokes "I used to have one of them", seems everyone did....and "1.6 or 1.9". Had a guy last week hanging out of his Transit at 60mph yelling"f*** YES! f***ING LOVE YOUR GTI!".

80% of the average people on the street probably just look and see some old French tin can.

i seem to get a fair bit of attention i once had someone wave their arms up and down as if they were praying as i drove past, probably the best iv seen.

i also get it in the ear from the miss's "do we have to go out in the gti, everyone always looks at us"

I get that too Jamie from my GF, apart fro being reluctant to go in it as she says it's too loud, and my driving, she'll only go in it with shades on the odd time she's in it.

Anyway, she's getting band for not trying to sit in it without trying not to damage my bolsters, touching glass, and not taking her shoes off lol

Wee boy loves it though.

Off topic, but I've had three 3200GTs (one an Assetto Corsa). Great cars - loved the push from the turbos, general lairiness, and that most people didnt know what they were.

My missus hates mine as well, she claims its embarrassing. She also claims to hate driving it but seems to forget each time she gets into it its not as bad as she thinks and it don't ever stop her flooring in with the stereo blasting out. She also hates the fact the 3 kids love the car and whenever we go out anywhere together they always run to it and ask if they can go in the pug.

I have had a few comments but these have generally been when I have gone somewhere car related (mechanics) and are generally from the older generation as opposed to the younger. One twenty something s*it bag I work with actually stated he would rather not have a car then have mine :( this was followed by a short sharp swift slap :)

Not just me then!

Actually had some young lads (driving a "slammed" Polo) look it over tonight at the local Shell garage.

Makes a change from "I had one of them when I was younger".

nveeate - another Boomerang fan! I've spent this winter without any traction control, which has been interesting.

My wife actually likes mine and enjoyed driving it when her Giulietta was in for repair.
