I Think My Lazer Green 1.9 Is Dead

Recommended Posts

so after my car sitting off the road for the past 4 years I decided to get it sorted!

After taking apart the front of the car and discovering that the headlight panel has pretty much rusted away and spending 2 weeks replacing and sorting this I moved onto the back of the car and now discovered that the tin of worms has exploded all over the back of the car as well, both rear quarters are rotten around the holes for the trim and the rear panel hidden by the rear bumper is also in pretty bad shape, along with a few minor holes in the boot floor.

So do I fix the car which will include:-

new headlight panels on both sides (already done)

new inner wings on both sides (already done)

new passenger sill

new passenger rear quarter

new drivers rear quarter

sort the rear panel

rebuild where the rear bumper mounts should be

and then a complete respray

or do I look for a new car or shell and just begin again???

You might want to bear in mind that rear quarters are no longer available but it looks like you have the skills to get round that.

You've come this far........go for it!

i have managed to source 2 quarters of a low miles car that look fairly good but will need separating from the rest of the car and that might be a nightmare!

If I do replace the quarters has any one so tips on how to join them at the roof, originally it looks like they were brass soldered together but I have no way of doing this. Was think of just putting a plate behind each panel and simple spot welding on this join, not sure if it would ever crack though as not wanting that to happen.

Didn't mind doing the front end but after a sill and 2 quarters its turning into a bit of a cut and shut,haha..

If it only took you 2 weeks to knock together that front end get cracking on the rest and you'll have it sprayed and rebuilt in no time! :D

I think you should do it. Once you get stuck in it won't be that bad. You have done a load of work on the shell already. It's a shame to bin it. It won't be a cut and shut at all as it's been done correctly. Not 2 cars bodged together to make a death trap. There aren't many lasers left, and 205's are being broken a lot for this sort of work. One day it will be the norm to do this sort of work. If it where any other make of the era it would be done.

Personally I would not consider changing the entire rear quarters unless the whole panel was rotten or damaged. If its just the area near the bodykit holes then I would just repair what is needed.

Fix it as there will never be as much rot on a 205 than there is on old BL cars.

Fix it. Lazer green 205s are rare enough. Can't think there are many in Scotland now. Infact I've never seen one in the flesh north of the border.

Its been decided that the car is getting fixed, a lot of grinding and welding ahead I think!

I did message the guy on Ebay selling the quarter but he refused to post it to me and there was no way I was driving down to get it, shame really as may have saved my a heap of work.
