Pp2000 And Winblows Xp

Recommended Posts

Slo

Just got myself a pp2000 and after a bit of reading it seems that the software will only work on windows xp or a virtual environment running on another os (vista 7 8 linux).

Been waiting all day for xp to install andupdate in this virtual pc thing just so i can even test this diagnostic device actually works.

God why did they make this xp only.

The software is a nightmare to install and set up

As I remember it takes forever to install and you'll think the pc has crashed at several points. It works well once installed though

Ive ditched the pp2000 standalone software and gone with the diagbox setup.

After installing virtual pc and xp with all its updates i've been sat in front of my laptop since 12:20 this afternoon and its only just got to the pp2000 install.

I don't think i ever bothered with diagbox, pp2000 was easy to use if you persevere with the setup, especially as instructions are thin on the ground

One thing I experienced is that Diagbox is slow compared to PP2000.

On my 407, using Diagbox 5.X version I launched PP2000 from Diagbox and has all features avaliable.

But when I upgraded to Diagbox 6.X, I could not use PP2000 anymore for most tasks (launched from diagbox still), and Diagbox is painfully slow.

However two virtual PC's running both Diagbox 6.X and 5.X is a good solution to read both old and new cars :)

Yes i saw how diagbox is terribly slow, have deleted it now and installed pp2000 but it wont start because it cant see the tool on usb.

How do you pass through usb devices in virtual pc? No matter what ive tried it just wont see the tool.

Its installed on windows 7 btw and 7 is ding donging when i plug in and remove it. Actia usb device - usb com board driver (UDMF).

Got it to install in the xp but its still not seeing it ffs. XP ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh pos

Can't remember exactly, but in the settings for the virtual PC image, I assume you use Virtualbox?, you need to enable USB for the virtual PC.

You should get a "VirtualPC USB" object or something on the list on the device manager list on your physical PC.

In the virtual PC the adapter should then be recognized as the Actia USB device...

Not sure if it might be a problem that the actia USB device is already connected on the physical PC, maybe it might get a conflict? I never installed the Diagbox/Actia driver on the physical PC.

Only way i could get it to install in the xp was to uninstall it on the host 7 and attach the unidentified device to xp which it saw and installed instantly but oddly as soon as it had finished 7 bing bonged as well and installed it at the same time.

Still not working, ive read the cheap chinese replicas which this obviously is are blacklisted from the software by the serial number from a certain builld number.

Oh well only thing left to try now is dual boot os when i finish work at midnight.

Finally got it working properly booting straight into xp on a dual boot, only problem is my laptop doesnt have any support for xp so there arent any drivers for anything at all which means no internet access while im using diagnostics :/

Ok. I would spend some more time on getting it to work on Virtualbox if I were you.

I actually prefer to use it on Virtualbox as it does not occupy the whole screen, keeping the virtual PC to a limited part of the screen on the host.

Always been annoying that PP2000 / Diagbox is occupying the whole screen.

Ive tried and tried. I can get it to install the actia driver on the host 7 or virtual xp but not both at the same time and the xp install is saying the pp2000 isnt connected or is already in use. over and over and over spent many hours on this twatting thing now

You need to uninstall the driver on the Win7 host I think at least.

As the virtual PC only needs a generic virtualbox USB device to be "installed" in the Win 7 device manager.

Then the virtual PC should have the Actia drivers installed.

Done all that, as soon as you attach the usb to xp it dissapears from 7 and appears in xp but pp2000 saying not connected or in use

Strange.

I can try to get the Virtualbox settings file from my image next time I start the diagPC if that would be to any help,

I should have fired it up and done some fault reading on a 308 anyway.

Ok borrowed an old laptop with xp on it for the time being and pp2000 is working like a charm, done a full diagnostic check and its thrown up a lot more faults than I expected but one thing is consistant between them all speed sensor not working so will get that changed if it ever stops raining.

I saved the results to a memory slot in pp2000 but how do i export the results so I can read them without having to have all the gear connected, where does it actually save the results to?

No one know where pp2000 saves its results then?

Ive had to take these screen shots as once i close the program i cant retrieve the information again despite me saving it several times now.

Not really sure what all these faults represent apart from the speed sensor that i've already got but havent replaced yet.

Car is a 206cc and multiplexed

All systems that have flagged up codes have the speed sensor fault included.

It might look simple and straight forward but its not, damm multiplex.
