How To Identify A Vts Rack?

Recommended Posts

JR20516V

Last year i purchased a VTS rack and now that is on the car i have found that it has 3.1/4 turns lock to lock when it should have a 2.6.
Interestingly i put up a stock standard 306 rack and it was exactly the same fit and fitted the 205 perfectly....it also had 3.25 turns lock to lock.
So i am in the midst of finding the hi and lo hoses for a VTS rack [difficult !! ] when i may be searching for the incorrect rack if you follow me..... i could have a standard Xsara rack sold to me thus chasing incorrect parts. I guess the VTS and VTR have completely different hoses?

The question is.....how can i tell if the rack is the real VTS one just by looking at it ??? [note: there are no hoses on it ]

‹How does it differ in looks from a standard Xsara or 306 as i think i may have been sold a pup :{

All the casings are the same externally as far as I know. Only way to check is put a spanner on the pinion wind it lock to lock and count how many turns.

Thanks Tom for the reply.....yes, i did that and got 3.25 turns lock to lock. It has" push on" hose connections which correct me if i am wrong the VTS was the only one that had this....the VTR was screw in.

The seller [a Pug mechanic by trade ] swears that this rack came off a VTS. Confused !!

it may well have been a vts, which in many countries was purely a trim spec badging unlike the UK cars, it may not even have been the J4RS engine in it.

The whole ph2 range had the push in hose fittings with the single bolt, including the VTR.

As said though, in many countries VTS was just a trim code, you often see irish 1.8 VTS badged cars whereas all UK VTS's had the J4R engine.
