Fuel Pump Flow And Return Outlets - Which Is Which?

Recommended Posts

jez205

Having taken the tank out of my car over a year ago now and lost the marks I made on the fuel pump I'm trying to work out which is the high pressure outlet and which the return pipe connects to.

I can blow down one but not the other so I'm guessing the one I can blow down is the return but can anyone say for definite?

Car is a 1990 1.9 gti and the pump is the black one.

Thanks

Jeremy

Look to see which outlet goes directly into the top of the pump. You should be able to see a rubber reducer pipe which goes from the pump to bottom of the outlet.

The pump doesn't want to budge so I've just replaced the corroded retaining ring with one of Tom's stainless ones and left it in place, I don't want to risk destroying a working pump by levering it up.

Being able to blow through the return makes sense to me so I'll try to connect that way first.

Thanks

connect the pipes and bung the pipe off the filter into a pot, turn the ignition on, simples :)

Looking at the service box diagram then the supply is the rear most outlet on the pump with the return in front.
