205 Power Steering

Recommended Posts

cti_jim

Hi there people

I'm currently making a good 205 from 2 cars. New shell (Gti) has a manual steering rack but old (cti) has power steering.

Now do I remove power steering from the cti and stay old school or do I transfer the whole lot to the new car.

New Gti shell has manual windows no central locking and cti has electric everything

What shall I do??????

Personally I think the power steering on a 205 makes it more useable every day, gives you a quicker rack than the manual, and detracts nothing from driving it. Win-win-win in my opinion.

I hear so much s*it that they are better without, the standard manual steering rack at 3.9 turns lock to lock is bloody awful.

Hmmm... Aren't the power steering racks harder to rebuild? As the first thing I would do is change the inner bush?

Thanks

Racks are dead easy to rebuild, but anything is easy if you can do it

But as Tom has said std 205 racks are horrendous now, I guess as most of my car's have the Xsara Rack on you can see why

My 93 CTI seems to have a quick standard rack (not sure if they were different on later cars), but my 1FM has PAS and is a lot better. If your CTI stuff is in good working order and you are already stripping all the engine bay down etc, then you would be foolish not to fit it.
