Phase 2 Front Speaker Wire Upgrade

Recommended Posts

kyepan

Hi There,

Quick question.

Is there a way of drilling out the multiplug to take a new thicker speaker wire from the amp to the front door speakers.

As i don't want to drill the door and A pillar.

Cheers

JB

My opinion would be that if you re use the Peugeot multiplug terminals, changing the cable is a bit of a waste of time, as the terminal quality will always be the limiting factor.

If you seriously want to improve the cabling I think you'd need to run a cable direct, through a convoluted grommet.

they're no different to the original phase2 205 plugs, just have a rubber boot instead of a lump of moulded rubber.

you can use larger wire terminals, as there were power wires fed through this type of plug, i.e electric windows, also used on the zx 306 406 etc for engine looms so fuel pump powers etc.

I had the exact same problem on my cti when I wanted to replace/upgrade the wires. I looked at drilling the plug but this really never looked possible or feasible. So instead I just completely removed the plug. Now I was only able to do this because apart from the speakers there were no other cables running to the door for things like electric windows and central locking.

If you don't have these you can remove it as I did, if you do you will need to drill it but best of luck ! I think you will need some especially if your putting in some decent thick cable.

I was worried with the plug gone I might get a lot of water coming in, after two years still not a drop but maybe I have just been lucky up until now.

Sorry Tom, my first post was not all that clear, written in a hurry.

I want to run a dedicated cable without any breaks, so not using the plug pins at all, so just using it as a pipe through which to route.

In the past I have done away with the phase 2 connector and put on the earlier flexible hose with the wires I needed running through this when I fitted EW and CL to a 92 Junior D. I also took the opportunity to upgrade the speaker wire at the same time.

I've done this, think it was on my old XS. I drilled out the sealed connector plug and managed to pass a decent gauge speaker wire through.

On the subject, can some one recommend a decent speaker wire that isn't stupid money? ICE is on the list for the goodwood shortly.
