Rated Max Torque For Mi16 Standard Clutch?

Recommended Posts

AntonAndersen

Hello guys.

Currently building a 205 GTi with a XU10 RGX turbo engine in it. Using a 306 GTI, 215mm flywheel, i had planed to use a 405 1.9 Mi16 clutch.
In the mean time, i began worrying about how the standard mi16 clutch will react on something like 210 bhp and 230 ft lb

I would therefore like to know, what the maximum rated torque - or - the actual maximum torque a standard 1.9 Mi16 clutch can handle?

Regards
Anton.

By the way; if anyone has a uprated clutch laying around, contact me :-)

You may struggle because of the torque delivery of the turbo engine, I know Tom Fenton struggled with one on his. Mine holds fine with 200ftlb but the power delivery is much different with it being supercharged.

I think you'll be pushing your luck to be honest.

Not sure on the standard mi 16 clutch, but i have had a helix sport organic clutch in for years, had it in my 8v turbo 200ftlb and in the gti 6 turbo engine 300ftlb and never had any slip or problems, not sure on your budget but you don't want to have to keep buying cheaper standard clutches as it will soon add up to the cost of an uprated that would have done the job all along.

My experience is that a new good brand Mi clutch will just about hold my 211ftlb, but the flywheel friction face needs to be perfect.

If you get a genuine 230ftlb I think you'll struggle TBH.
