Hub, Shaft And Brake Compatibility Question

Recommended Posts

tomcolinjones

hello. I have a ma boxed 205. Soon to have a gti subframe. I have both base model and 1.6 brakes, hubs, shafts available. Which would be the best way for me to go? Base model shafts and hubs with 1.6 caliper and 1.9 disc, complete 1.6 setup or something else? I was hoping to go 309 shafts in the future, so would I need 1.9 hubs and 309 shafts? Its been a long time since I was fiddling with hubs and shafts ;)

there are 309 shafts which fit 1.6 hubs, if you are going bigger brakes use the base model hubs.

use which ever brakes are best condition for now if above is true, a cheap upgrade (as such) for a 1.6 is to fit 1.9 calipers.

is it a rally car? if so might be best to find out what pad choice would be best/cheapest for you and chose the calipers accordingly.

its purely going to be a fast road car, just upgrading to vented discs and good oem pads will be plenty enough braking.

309 shafts for 1.6 hubs?? This sounds interesting

They are the 1.4 tu 309 driveshafts rare but dirt cheap when they do come up!

It calls the spline '21' in the pic, I'd say that's the measurement so yes, I'd double check the length

don't use 309 shafts unless you're going to use 309 wishbones! They won't thank you for it!
