Grit Blaster Cabinet Recommendations

hello,

 

I have decided to buy myself a grit blasting cabinet for help with restoring my 205, figured it would be handy for cleaning rusty brackets and various other parts.

 

Has anyone bought something similar and can recommend me the right direction to go in, not wanting to spend more than £200 on the cabinet really.

 

Also wondering the best medium for blasting the aluminium engine mounts, hoping to get them looking like new.

I haven't got a cabinet but I bought a cheap sealey blasting kit to use with my compressor, I'v used it a few times with walnut shell on a few steel brackets and to blast some aluminum panels and it did a good job, think it only cos me about 30quid including the medium

I have one of those red MachineMart sandblasting cabinets , the smaller one with the top opening window .Its fine for smaller stuff like brackets , alloy wheel centre caps etc . Can be quite difficult to see in through the window even with the built in light on . The real issue is the size of your compressor , I only have a low power one with a smallish tank so there is lots of waiting for the pressure to build up , will be getting a decent one this summer as I am spraying a 309 so this should improve .

I just went for the coarsest grit that they sell in Machinemart , there is no comparison with the industrial grit blasting that I have had done on hubs etc but it still comes in useful - did all my fog lamp bodies with it .

was £222 in early 2014, so that price seems pretty good.

 

However the original lighting is shocking, I added 3 20w led flood lights, one at low level between the apertures and two above the viewing window and set up a Henry hoover as an extract system. Poor old Henry's now had a hard life.....

i made one out of 2x 205l drums, with a perpex window, some 3" ducting to attach the gloves to. Was built big to get tubes in and torsion bars etc. Saxo heater motor is used as the extraction system works well and does as i need.

this is the exact same one im looking at, whats it like size wise? Can you fit a 205 front wishbone into it as this is probably the biggest item i have to blast?

 

I did think about making one, but as a couple of us are putting cash into it and its easier im just gonna buy one.

 

Any recommendations for the best medium to use when blasting the alloy engine mounts, have been looking at either the walnut grit or the fine glass grit?
