Anyone Else Had Fuel Spat At Them When Filling Up?

Recommended Posts

m_john_m

IV only put fuel in he r3 times..... Each time I do it decides it wants to spit a load back out at me.

Anyone else had to do this, it seems as though I have to drip feed it in.

Not sure whether the pope going to the fuel tank has been slightly crushed so the fuel has to 'funnel' down or whether everyone has to do this.

It will take me forever to fill it up lol

How much petrol have you actually put in at the pump?

(first thought was your gauge could be faulty and it's actually full.)

I'm pretty sure it works as before it was on the road it ran out of fuel and it's not had much in it.

I have to half put the pump in and slowly does it, every few litres it tries to jump out, then goes down and I can carry on.

I don't think it's full :/

Mine does this. Just the other day it did a massive belch at Sainsbury's and shot a big jet of fuel over the forecourt. The tank was no more than quarter full.

All part of the fun of owning a 205.

It's all fun and games...... It broke down on me tonight lol

Went to boot it down a bypass.... The AFM plug popped out and cut the car out, tried to start it and nothing.... Plugged it back in then battery died..... It's a brand new battery lol I tried to start it 3 times.

Bloody French cars :P

Mine never belches but I have to angle the pump to stop it clicking off straight away

Mine does this. But I've found an angle and sometimes hold the trigger less so it's slightly less fast.

its probably due to the nozzles for unleaded have got smaller, to stop people putting diesel by mistake as the diesel nozzles are bigger,

it means that the petrol comes out faster on the unleaded nozzle being a smaller bore, thas my reckoning :P

:D

Nice theory, but the diesel 205's are no better!

Trick is to angle the fuel nozzle in such a direction as to direct the stream of fuel down the filler.

I've owned numerous petrol and diesel 205's and never had any issue with any of them. I must just have a knack for the supposed angle because, judging by how often this comes up, its fairly common.

Sure enough sometimes it does click a few times and you might have to apply 95% pressure to the trigger rather than 100% but that has happened on every car i've ever fuelled.

I also cannot go full throttle on the fuel pump. Adjusting the angle helps but there's no way I can squeeze the pump handle 100% without fuel coming back at me. <_<

I'm part throttle case aswel, and angled so it squirts straight down the filler. Had a few belches when I first got the car!

i think i was only using about 50% of the pump lol took ages putting £10 in! i have to basically aim the fuel into the tank, keep watching it and if i see bubble arise then quickly stop! otherwise i get the sweet taste of petrol lol iv never had this problem with a car though, all adds up to character.

You have to jam the nozzle in past the breather. Get it right in there and angle the trigger 45+ deg...

I think it was more to avoid to fill cat equipped cars, having also a smaller bore filler hole, with leaded fuel.

I recognize the needed angling, but not as bad as described above; sounds like blocked breather.

I would guess at it being a blocked breather. I've had my 205 for nearly 14 years now so I have the knack of angling the nozzle correctly, however it has recently started to spit petrol back at me. If you pull the trigger all the way you can hear the air bubbling back up the filler tube and if you don't release the trigger it will spit enough petrol back out to cover you if you're standing in the way. Another job on the list to sort out.

Yes, I've had it. Wasn't paying attention and it spat out on my foot!

Try and get the nozzle as far down into the filler neck as possible and don't pump at full blast...I pull the trigger about halfway and stop occasionally. Never had troubles since.

As said though, check the breather pipe to make sure it's clear...the rest is just best pumping practice.
