Leaking Fuel Filter 1.6

Recommended Posts

Ramigojag

Thought I'd change the fuel filter this morning.

Got the filter it came with the new copper washers.

It keeps leaking, managed to seal the top side now (out) by just going extra tight but the bottom (in) I cannot get to seal its not leaking as bad but I've had to go so tight it feels like any tighter it will pull the threads out of the alloy filter housing.

Is this common? Poor quality washers? I don't know only thing I might try is going for a better quality filter either Bosch or Pug themselves, but I read that it doesn't come with the washers anyway.

Have you got washers both sides of each banjo?

Yes there were 4 washers. Two bigger and two smaller. Put the two bigger ones on the bottom side as its a bigger banjo bolt and the two smaller on the top.

Did you get new washers with the new filter or did you reuse the old ones?

Never had an issue with this, but I used genuine filters and washers.

Tim on this forum used a pattern filter, am sure had same issue and then bought a gen Bosch one from me and problem was cured as I heard nothing else from him about it.

I used a Mann one from ECP and that was fine too. Perhaps you have just been unlucky. Hope you get it sorted.

I had a leaking fuel filter after I replaced it,it was a UFI branded filter,I took it back off and checked the sealing face on the filter and it was distorted really badly, took it back got a genuine filter and all was good.As has been said though I have fitted non genuine filters in the past with no problems just wouldn't use a UFI one again.

Just been out again the washers were both seated correctly. Even tried with the old washers.

I'm going to get either Bosch or Pug this week if they fit and seal fine then I'll know to stay away from UFI in the future if they don't then it must be me lol or there's some other issue probably with the banjo

Car parts for less on eBay sell a Bosch for about 12 quid delivered.

Pug are about 30 quid, good discount code though, that can be brought down to the high teens In price.

I thought I would update this for future reference if anyone finds themselves with the same problem.

I fitted UFI filter # 31.506.00

It leaked

Swapped it for FRAM filter # G3747

Stopped leaking immediately, so I put it down to poor/cheap quality filter. I also have two UFI air filters in my M5, which after this I think I will change for something else even though they've only been in there for approx. 1000 miles.
