Camshaft Timing After New Head.

Recommended Posts

dartman

Have just put a longman head and kent cam 285 on my bottom end and having some trouble with the timing, when my pistons are all level (90below TDC) what position should my cam/ pulley be at? Or any other way to set up my timing, I have a vernier on for tweaking but just want to get it turning over without hitting the valves.

get a dial gauge and set the lift @tdc.

should find the figure on their website.

Cheers welsh pug, the head has a huge skim so I am just a bit concerned about how much that will alter the timing.

A big skim will retard the cam timing by approx. 2 deg cam (4 degrees crank). Don't forget to subtract the inlet valve clearance from the lift @ TDC figure.
