Hi GUYS,can anybody out there help, bought a 1989 1.6 gti a couple of months ago as a restoration, drove it home and then decided to start taking bits off one at a time, clean it or replace it and go on to next bit.I removed the immoboliser as it was a pain to get the the thing to energise with the fob.Now it wont start, checked the wiring it appears ok,removed the plug from one of the injectors and when i turn the engine over i expected bout 5v dc according to manual but nothing, there is a good spark at the plugs,im getting very frustrated, also the injector measures bout 15 ohms at the pins so im presuming thats ok,anybody got some sound info for this please, regards neil

If you've got spark then the ignition side of things is OK.

Is the fuel pump getting power when cranking and fuel being delivered to the rail?

Most immobilisers cut the fuel pump feed, so that would be my suspicion if that's what you've just removed.

If there's no power to the pump but you're sure the wiring is OK, temporarily bridge the wiring on the tachymetric (fuel pump) relay so that the pump and injectors have constant 12v - thick brown is the 12v supply and the two thick whites are the injectors and pump. If it runs like that, it'll be a failed relay which isn't unheard of.

Thanks anthony, since then i checked the tachomatic relay and that is fine, pulling in,also pump feeding petrol to fuel rail,is it possible to get the distributor 180 degrees out of phase, the connection is offset so i would think you couldnt, the reason im sayin this is because i removed the distributor to check it out and clean it up but didnt mark it up very well but have moved it in the slot a couple of mill at a time, every now and again i get a massive blow back in the exhaust, ive checked out the airflow meter, all good.regards neil,
