Xsara Vts Buying Advice

Recommended Posts

Clapton_Is_God

Hello All and Happy New Year!

I'm hoping to view a year 2000 Xsara VTS at the weekend with a view to doing the conversion on my 205. Obviously I only need certain items but is there anything I need to be looking out for in perticular to ensure I'm getting something worth buying?

Any advice in advance would be appreciated as I don't know one end of a Xsara from another.

Beam, engine, box and rack is where the money mainly lies. However if the beams cambered and the engines a tapper I'd walk away! Even if it's £400

Also for the price you can pick up a running gti6 engine is it actually buying a complete car. There was a standard RS engine on the gti6 forum from a known member for £200 with a belt change!

There isn't that much to have for your 205 from a Xsara really.

Good point and I hadn't given any thought to either the rack or the beam.

Thank you.

sounds like it will be a phase 2- in which case ecu loom and injectors (and a few sensors) are useless to you.

It's got the squarish type headlights so I'm hoping it's an earlier one.

It is a ph 1 on the squarer lights. I owned a ph 1 Xsara VTS back in 2003 as my everyday road car, it was a cracking bit of kit, as quick as more or less all the other hot hatches of the time, but a real sleeper and hardly anyone knew what it was.

As said, 2000 will be last of the Ph1 cars which is the better one for a 205 donor as you can use the ECU, loom etc and the engine has the correct bits on it.

2001 onwards is Phase 2.

Make sure it's an actual gti6 engined VTS aswell.

There's quite a few Irish imports that are badged up as vts'a but only have a 1.8 engine. You can normally tell by the wheels if you have no engine bay shots as the Irish imports have almost identical alloys to the phase 2 Saxo vts's.

Can you tell I've owned over 25 xsara vts's?

Can you tell I've owned sent over 25 xsara vts's to the great scrapyard in the sky after having brutally harvested their organs?
