Shes Finally On The Road!

Recommended Posts

After owning Patsy the Pug for 2 years she is finally taxed, MOTd and insured!

Took her for a good blast this weekend! They are pretty awesome to drive and still quite quick.

she has had quite a bit done to get her through an MOT.

306 GTI brakes and calipers all round with pads

New hand brake cable

New brake lines

New oil breathers

5 holes welding up in the boot

4 new tyres

New rear shocks

She runs fine and drives fine.

only problem is that when she first fires up she doesnt like to idle on her own, give it a a few revs and she idles.

Idling can also vary from 800 rpm to 2000rpm. my uncle (who done all the work) said he think the advance is sticking on the dizzy to make it rev up, could this be it?

we originally thought the AFM was on its way out/broke.

The only downside to the car is the interior, half leathers have become unstitched and the leather is worn in places. How have people fixed this problem as it seems a common thing on these.

She has started bubbling from above the rear side windows - seems a common place for them to go, and the bonnet could do with respraying as its a bit tatty with dents.

i will be giving her a machine polish this weekend (i hope)!

I have attached a pic, i haven't cleaned her yet as i was too excited to take her for a spin!

Seats can be taken apart easily and restitched. You can also get leather dye kits which match well. I use a liquid leather kit. Have a search for previous threads with pictures. Can't paste the link on my phone for some reason!

Thanks I will have a look later! The bolsters are pretty worn and could do with new foam. Think someone quoted me 500 to retrim, dieing them sounds A lot better!

I wod probably take the leather off, dye it, then get someone to refoam and stitch them back up. Iv heard seat upholstery is an art in itself

Nice, I'm counting down the days till mine is back on the road after a 3 year vacation.

Hopefully it won't need to much for MOT fingers crossed.

It really isn't John. I have done loads myself by hand and its quite easy. I dye when the cover is fitted at its easier to get an even finish. Have a go and let me know if you have any queries once you get going. Also keep an eye in scrap yard and eBay. Some non gti seats have the same bolsters and the inner side is usually in good shape. You can just cut them out.

Did the dye not stain the stitching? id be worried about getting it on the seat/stitching.

apparently there is someone local that does all this stuff. i think i am going to see how much, if its astronomical then i will give it a go myself.

can you not buy the foam cut outs on the internet?

Yes it will dye the stitching but you can apply it carefully and avoid stitching or just focus on scuffs and blend it in.

Yes, but foams are quite expensive. There is someone called Dave who used to produce them but I've not seen him on here for a while. I think you can also buy a whole seat base from a forum in France.

I have contacted someone who is selling a set of front seats, if they are in decent condition I may just buy them and fit them, then fix the ones that are currently worn.

Would the bolsters be the same in a normal 205 as that in the GTI?

The GTi type bolsters are found on models with sports seats - GTi, STDT, DTurbo, XS etc - but not shopping spec base models.

If you look at the seats, you'll see that the bolsters are shaped quite differently, the base model ones being quite flat with little lateral support.

It's possible you have the wrong filter selected. To change back to the default camera filter > open your iPhones camera app > tap the three circles arranged in triangluar form (bottom right of the camera screen) > select from grid of filters > select "none".
