Gti 6 Wiring Problems

Recommended Posts

GTI6 style

Hi, im new so apologise if I'm asking an old question but i have searched and cant find any answers,

I do have a fair understanding of wiring and have done my own wiring loom for ITBs and MS2 in the past.

I am stuck though so please help!

My car is a 1990 base model 1.1 carb job, engine is xsara VTS and wiring loom a fairly early GTI6, I've traced most of the wires back with a multimeter and got most sorted, my numbers and colours seem to differ from the guides on here.

I have 3 wires in question, first the thick white fuel pump wire, this i presume is the 12v feed and can directly to the fuel pump not requiring a fuse or relay?

Next i have the lambda 12v positive to supply, can this be connected to my old coil 12v feed or do i need to wire up a new clean feed through a relay?

Finally i have a third thick white wire whilst most seem to have two, it splits to 3 smaller blue wires and a small brown, I'm presuming this is a 12v feed that i need to power? It seems to feed certain engine sensors/controls, according to a labelled picture on here one of which is "heater" in the inlet?

What amps/supply do i need? And is there an easy place to get it?

I am trying to keep both the car and engine loom as simple and clean as possible without extra relays etc i don't need and id prefer not to be splicing wires near fuse box as I've built this up from a bare shell im looking for an everyday reliable simple to fix car.

Thank you ben

I'm not sure on the last wire but I put a 106 going engine in my friends do a while ago,the fuel pump wire I ran through the fuse box,no relay but did fuse it,as the the lambda sensor I can't remember where I picked up a 12v from but I did all the wiring to get the car running and used a spare 12v wire, this was also fused.

Getting back onto the car soon, ill be running new 12v feeds from shunt box for my 3rd thick white wire and lambda,

I'd rather not if theres an easier neater way where im not adding extra relays and fuses.

Anyone any ideas?

Going to be doing the wiring this week, anyone know if theres a suitable spare connection in my 1.1 carb fuse box? There are several spare 12v ignition lives but not sure what amps they are rated to,

Also does anyone know what rating fuse i require for my lambda, my 3rd thick white wire, and fuse pump?

I can look up my old MS2 wiring diagram but as this is a much simpler task and id like to keep it that way.

Thanks

Ill try and help mate ive just had similar problems, but you need to explain where these wires are coming from and going to, its a little hard to picture it as youve explained it.

Lambda is switched from the ecu is it not?

no, its an ignition switched live, two sensor wires and an earth for the heater element.
