recently rebuilt my 1.9 gti engine went to turn it over last night and there is hell of a deep noise sounds like it's coming from the starter any ideas ??

did you remember the dowels on the gearbox and starter?

Not sure as I didn't put the starter back it sounds like a deep whining noise
