yes coz when i put a lot of effort in pushing the pedal the rears lock up, i was thinking maybe the 306 calipers have a bigger piston size and and can cause not enough push

Just been to my garage to try and find what the prob is

what i have done is run the engine and one foot is hard pressed on the brake and the other revving

what happens when i do this i feel a dip in the brake pedal once revving, any advice will be very helpful

also discovered why the speedo did not work too, was not seated properly in the gearbox

are you using one of those gunson bleed kits? It's the only thing that would bleed mine properly. spongy=trapped air in the system

Have you checked for leaks from any of the joins or unions?

i used a bleed kit but now everytime i try and use it, it pops off the reservoir, it maybe just air in their still as it was a complete rebuild of the brake system

yes i have, got no leaks anywhere, still the same amount of fluid and their is no loss, just seems a little odd.

Have you tried cracking off the unions on the master cylinder and checking there's no air trapped there? The vw/skoda/audi suffer with air getting trapped there but they have a bleed nipple fitted to the master cylinder.

funny enough i did that today, only a bit of air came out of the redundent union, still no change thou, must be more in there somewhere

I used an ez bleed only today on my car and it was fine. I only put 15 psi in the tyre rather than 20 as you could "just" hear a tiny bit of leakage on the reservoir adaptor cap when it was 20 psi. It worked perfect, went round the car twice.

It wouldn't be anything to do with having the handbrake on when you're bleeding would it? not 100% sure if it would make a difference for you? For drums maybe not...

Anthony

Are you sure its not just the rear wheel self adjusters playing silly games as Welshpug implied earlier? Very common and gives a rubbish pedal with too much travel no matter how much you bleed it as you're having to take up the slack with the first part of the pedal travel.

spot on Anthony, I'd start there, slacken the cables right off, adjust the shoes up till they just rub then try again.

Another update

Sorted!!!!

the rears needed adjusting by quite a bit,now when i start the car up there is minimal travel in the pedal

and all the brakes work equally

Thanks guys
