Fuel Pump Not Priming

Recommended Posts

notamondayfan

Hi,

The car's been sat in the garage for the past few months. When I last started it, no problems, but now the fuel pump doesnt prime on key turn, or pump any fuel when turning over.

I've checked all the connections I can think of, checked fuses, and all earths, but still no joy. Which earth is used for the fuel pump? I also checked the connection on the relay and it's good too.

Also, it might be totally unrelated, but the headunit doesn't appear to work either, could these 2 things be connected? All the other electrics appear to be fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions, where / how to test?

Thanks,

Dean

Ok will try the pump directly later.

Does anyone know which earth point the fuel pump uses, or any other connections that could affect the fuel pump?

Cheers

Dangerous Dave

you could disconect the relay and bridge the perm live (think its brown) to the fuel pump (white one) that will then turn the pump on so you should hear it then,

if it turns on i would say your relay has had it, if it doesnt i would then say the pupm is dead.

has the car got an after market alarm fitted? these cars are old so i wouldnt rule that out either...

just to add the bridge is only to test the pump not a fix.

Before I delved too deep into the relays, etc, I double checked all connections, and earths, cleaning all of them. Some earths were missing the spikey type washer, so added them too, and now it's fine. I don't know which one did the trick, as I just did everything.

Anyway it's now all working.

Cheers,

Dean

For future ref, the fuel pump earth is on the block in the boot near the tail light, on the NS from memory.
