Rod And Piston Weight

Recommended Posts

benny205mi16

Hello,

I am now finally starting to rebuild my 1.9 Mi16.

I have had some work done, decked, lightened flywheel, ect.

I am now re-assembling the piston and rods, so I thought I would weigh the individual parts and assemble them to be as close as possible in weight.

My pistons are all within 2 g of each other, but 3 of the rods are within 1g of each other and the forth is 25 g more.

1=619g

2=619g

3=620g

4=645g

My question is, is this normal or do I have a mixed set and will this be ok or should I try and source another rod?

Thank you

Ben

I have just noticed that the 3 of close weighted ones have a serial number in the casting I think it reads V8088 and EZ but the other does not have this. So it appears I have a mixed set.

I do have some other spare rods which are closer to the weight of the heavy one, but these have a spread of 10 g between them.

1=645 g (from the original set I posted about above)

2=646 g

3=645 g

4=654 g

So this does not make a great set either.

What to do??

I have been looking at them just and I am now thinking the same.

Think I will take the heavier set and remove some material to bring it down to meet the others.

Thanks

Ben
