How To Check A Wishbone

Howdy, could someone tell me how you go about checking the health of a wishbone, bushes/balljoint (off the car) ?

 

should the ball joint be able to be moved at all by hand etc?

The balljoint should be comparatively stiff to move by hand, and if it moves with little resistance or there's any play whatsoever means it's knackered.

 

Bushes are a bit harder - if they're obviously perished and knackered looking then they'll want changing, but they can look absolutely fine and still make the car drive horrendously - you certainly don't need any obvious movement to have the car lurching all over the road as you come on and off the throttle, hence they'll usually still pass an MOT.
