Gti6 Idling At 2K

Hey,

In the cold weather my gti6 has a tendency to idle at around the 2k mark which is annoying

Assuming it's the ICV is it something that can be cleaned or is it just worth replacing it?

Thanks

try cleaning it first, sometimes they get stuck. Cheap replacements dont normally last.

Replace it with a Pug one. This happened on mine and no amount of cleaning and resetting would help. New one at about £60, reset it, idle is now rock solid at about 600rpm.

Hi apologies for dragging up an old thread but did the genuine pug part fix?

Now that I've managed to get an mot on my GTI6 205 it's behaving badly!

Sounds very similar to AdamF's symptoms. Idles at around 1.5k on start up but jumps to 2k as soon as I even think about touching the throttle? I thought it maybe an air leak somewhere but if I block the idle control valve the engine dies, am I right in thinking there is no leak? I bought a replacement ICV from carparts4less and it idles at 5k on start up! The only other thing I've noticed this evening is the fuel pump seems to run constantly when turning the ignition on rather than just priming?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

John.

has to be an air leak, check the inlet manifold gasket

Just to update I've changed the gasket but no change. I going to try a genuine pug ICV and see if that does the trick.

Am I missing anything else?

Personally I think it's your ICV.

If it was an air leak I don't think it would have died when you plugged the ICV pipe.

Ok so still no joy :(

I bought a ICV from Peugeot for £148 and still holds at 2.5k. I tested for 12v at the ICV twice and the first time it was fine but the second time nothing? Could this be a relay or ECU fault?

This is getting really frustrating now....

Cheers

John.

you wont find 12v at the icv, its a constantly variable voltage, all 4 wites are directly connected to the ecu

Thanks. So does that mean it could be the ECU? As when i run the car without the ICV plugged in it does behaves the same.

could be the loom, check all 4 wires between icv and ecu.

Just to cover off if someone has the same issue, turned out to be the relay. Running perfectly :)
