Carpet Underlay

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have an opinion on carpet underlay? Are the rolls available from eBay as good as any? I'm struggling to find alternative suppliers and can't find plastic backed anywhere.

Also, since my original was so sodden that it disintegrated when removing, does anyone have a template?

I used the stuff off eBay, used two layers so it was around the same thickness as OE.

I ordered 3m to start with but needed to order some more as the front section has to be cut length ways.

Try scrap yards, i managed to source some from a base model in tip top condition, think its a bit thinner but i also added some foil backed laminate underlay just for good measure.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Household stuff didn't even cross my mind and I guess there is no particularly special property that automotive has over it.

I'm guessing about 3/4" is roughly the correct thickness?

In hindsight I should have tried to keep as much of mine to use as a template just as you have done mrfirepro. Really tidy job!

I hope this isn't too cheeky but if anyone has one in the garage at the mo. Let me know if it's possible to draw round it on some large sheets of paper and pop them in the post to me. I'll obvioisly pay for time and postage!

all the above are good ideas. I went to my local scrappy and robbed all the 306's of their boot floor mats!

I had one from a scrap yard out of a Saxo/106, slight trim and fitted.
