Is It Worth Painting My Sump?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm in the process of a top end engine rebuild and engine bay refresh, almost finished now thank god. One of the last jobs to tackle was to deal with a sump gasket leak. I have removed the sump cleaned the mating surfaces and given the sump itself a good going over with a wire brush wheel. As with all sumps its a bit rough looking and doesn't go with the condition I have got the rest of the engine, although I haven't painted the engine just cleaned and sprayed with wd40 as I find engine lacquer useless.

Has anyone sprayed a sump and has it lasted any longer than five minutes or what have people done to get their sump looking good.

Thanks as usual.

I wire wheeled mines and sprayed with clear VHT 380deg? laquer. Doesn't look amazing but very presentable and has lasted. The VHT stuff has lasted on my cam covers too (gti6). Think u need to get a layer on as soon as you've finished wire wheeling to lock the shine in.
