British Gasket Group Head Gasket?

Recommended Posts

stumpyjag

Hi all, happy Christmas.

Recently purchased a head gasket set from Gsf, when it came the manufacturer is BGA British Gasket Group. My intention was to use all of the not so important gaskets and seals out of it and get a Peugeot head gasket. However I've done a bit of research and they seem to have a pretty good reputation, but before I fit it I just wondered if anyone had heard of any horror stories about them.

If it makes any difference the car will probably only be doing a thousand summer miles per year when finished.

As usual thanks in advance for any advice.

IMO I'd try and return the set you have bought and go for a decent quality one. It's one of these things that an extra 50/70 quid will save you a lot of bother in the near future.

Get a Payen one, Better than the one from Pug as they are normally Mellor ones on the 8v's

think the payen gasket I used last week was £18 or so, bolts about the same.

ive used a bga gti6 gasket iirc, still going a few years on afaik, but the rivets were a bit bulky (o.e ones didnt have rivets)

Always used British gaskets, never had a problem, only problem I had was couldnt get the right headbolts in british gaskets, I blame the motor factor other than that they are perfectly fine

Ditto - The head gasket on my TU build is currently a BGA gasket, it's been on for 4 years now and touchwood, is currently fine. It see's 7000rpm everytime it gets driven, so it's not had a sheltered life!

We use a BGA head gasket in our turbo 8v which also runs a decompression plate to make things more complicated, and it hasent failed. In fact we split a liner before it had chance. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=111301&page=8

My take on it is that there's nothing wrong with them at all provided that everything either side of it is clean and flat.

All the best

O.T.

Thanks for all the help. I decided to use it, it's only been on for about an hours running so far but all seems good so far.

Cheers.
