How To Store My 205 Over Winter?

Recommended Posts

iPlod999

So, as above.

I have a scooter which I have borrowed off a mate for a few months and will more than likely buy one come March.

Since mid September I have only driven the Pug 4 times. Therefore, is no longer my daily driver.

It's locked away in the garage and I probably go out once a week and start it up. I let the engine warm up to tempreture, enough for the fan to kick in.

Is there anything else I should be doing for the car being stored mid to long term?

drive it, just sitting there idling will do it no good.

At the very least, I thought at least you would polish it every week....

I know I should just drive it Mei. Just not really getting the time to now days. Maybe I should try harder and get is out on a dry day.

It does seem a waste to be taxed and tested and not going anywhere!

Paul. Would you believe me if I said that I have not washed or waxed it since mid September?

Oh the shame. ;)

I leave mine for 6-8 weeks without driving or even starting it. I then get it out for a thrash, it's done 470 miles since March.

It is plugged into a trickle charger and under a car port.

Been like this for 7 or so years.

I'd agree with just leaving it, its really not very long time.

Starting them up and letting them warm up does more harm than just leaving them, As in other posts like this after storage just re-start, The 205 I own sat for 14 years and started up, abit on 2 1/2 cylinders and fuel as mucky as you can imagine but she still goes.

Mine is covered up in the garage with a trickle charger on, also declared it sorn, as I won't dig it out now until March.

I did start it a few weeks ago just to make sure all was well, it fired up first time, so I will just leave it now.

Any thoughts on fuel? I read somewhere that ideally you should fill the tank up to prevent condensation in the tank, I also use the Esso Supreme unleaded, (I found it better than the V Nitro stuff from Shell)

cheers.

its a plastic tank so condensation is less of a concern than say a VW with a steel tank.

Apart from anything else, running it like that will fill your exhaust with condensation. If you've run it quite a few times, take the exhaust off and see how much water pours out. Not good, especially if it's not a stainless system.

OK people.

You have convinced me. I will take her out once a week and give her a dam good thrashing.

It's a tough job but someone has to do it. :)
