Timing Dowels

Going to be doing the cambelt on the gti, and

Was wondering if any one had made up there own timing Dowels. I've used 10mm drill bits before, but if I remember there was a bit of play in the pulley hole. So was wondering if anyone had the dimensions for making up dowels. Also means I can get a bit of practice on the lathe at work
