Engine Bay 'tarting Up'

Recommended Posts

forbeslongden

Hey there all,

I'm looking to tidy up the engine bay in my 1.6 GTI, everything seems to work as it should and the car runs fine albeit, a little lean but the engine bay is pretty murky and could ideally do with being made a little more presentable.

I'm already changing the rocker cover, alternator, ignition cables, coil, cam belt + tensioners, engine top mount support and alternator bracket for either polished or powder coated variants, is there anything else that anybody could suggest?

Thanks in advance!

A good general clean up, eith with a power washer or some de greaser/ hot water. Paint the strut brace and a new expansion bottle cap.

Ah yes! I forgot the expansion bottle cap! Agree on the strut brace too, it's looking a little worse for wear...

Tidy the brake lines.

Remove and clean expansion tank.

Clean brake reservoir and cap.

Apply engine degreaser everywhere.

etc......

Polish the Cam Cover, I chromed mine, lasted about 3 months before it blistered and that was in a garage.

Had another polished up as I had one done for my old Gti and it lasts a lot longer.

Brake fluid cap is NFP, as well as the tank now.

I've got one on the way, there was a zinc pacified one on eBay which looked pretty good.
