calvinhorse 870 Posted March 6, 2015 If that fits better than a standard gti6 manifold on a gti6 engine in a 205 I think a lot of people will be upset!
rallyeash 155 Posted March 6, 2015 It just fouls on the steering rack! By about 5mm. Serves me right for trying to get the engine as low as possible. Rather than cut the exhaust up or move the rack I'm going to just tweek the front engine mount slightly to give a few more degree's towards vertical on the engine. calvinhorse 870 Posted March 6, 2015 A good sacrifice to make to keep the weight low down
rallyeash 155 Posted March 20, 2015 Well... Progress isn't always forward. I brought the car into the workshop this eve to do the exhaust. Well the manifold fouls on the steering rack but also fouls on the roof of the exhaust tunnel. In affect the engine needs to go up 15mm and back 15mm so back to the drawing board. Engine in and exhaust manifold fitted but fowls Engine back out
Josh_Quant 27 Posted March 21, 2015 Is it not possible to cut and it to re angle like everyone does with the 6 manifold.?

welshpug 1,671 Posted March 21, 2015 id just mod the manifold, better than compromising the engine location, and doing it all again.
Biggles 65 Posted March 21, 2015 Indeed - I'd mod the manifold too. Moving weight upwards is a big compromise and what would moving the engine back do to the driveshaft angles or would you tilt it backwards too to keep the diff in line in which case what would the tilt do to the oil pick-up ? Manifold mod sounds a lot easier to me.
rallyeash 155 Posted March 21, 2015 Nah, it would of need to of been modified like a dog leg, the drive shaft before would of been coming forwards slightly also. Now the drive shafts to hubs are bang in line, the engine is slightly further back, height wise it's still lower than a XU and the exhaust now clears with no mods. There is no compromise on engine location, it's better than before!
rallyeash 155 Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) Well i took this opportunity to make the engine mounts more professional... Because I chopped the old mounts I had made to overcome my exhaust issue I started again in affect. This time I added supports on the section of angle, then i figures id make it more complete and capped of the ends with some 2mm sheet. Much Much happier than what I had before. Malc 45 Posted March 21, 2015 Great project this, 309s were always underrated and the fact your keeping it standard (ish) exterior wise with the Honda engine will be a great achievement. So much better than just going out and buying a fast car, this will surprise a few motors out there. I really do get the building up something that no-one else has done before (well almost no-one). Loads of frustrations on the way but every drive will be worth it in the end, total respect here. Got to ask though if looking at a fast road/sleeper why not consider a V6 mk2 golf GTI? Malc 45 Posted March 26, 2015 Still plenty room in that engine bay, potential in the future for a turbo/supercharger conversion? One thing at a time though!
