Revs Holding High When Warm....

Recommended Posts

savage16v

Hi guys, hoping for some advice/ideas please.

I have noticed on my 205, that sometimes when I have been up in the revs, so over 5k rpm, and then change gear...I notice the revs hold high as I change and don't drop between gears as they should.

Same obviously when I am slowing down, the revs hold high (anywhere between around 2k rpm-3k rpm).

It never does this when the car is cold, and it doesn't do it all the time when it is warm, maybe around 70-80% of the time.

It is frustrating, pulling up at lights, roundabouts etc with it revving high.

The car is Mi16 with twin 45's, Catcams inlet cam plus a few other bits.

The carbs have just been balanced, and timing set up. It was doing this before, and is still doing it now.

I have tried messing about with the tickover, which helps at the time, but then it starts doing it again.

I have a few things to check:

Check idle screw does not have a weak spring and the screw is turning (unlikely to cause this imo)
Check butterfly spindles are not too tight & grease bearings

It is not throttle cable related, as I have checked this.

I did consider the fact that it may be warm air from the radiator, but I wouldn't of thought it would cause this.

If anybody has had similar, or has any suggestions it would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks,

Rich.
