What A Mess!

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

On the way to work this morning, something crap happened. On a dual carriageway, a vectra lost control and ploughed into the side of me, taking me over the kerb and onto the verge, my car dug in and flipped.

I'm fine aside from whiplash and a bit shaken up. Somehow managed to avoid any cuts or bruises (i think).

But the car isn't looking too clever.

Already let the underwriters know I want salvage rights, hopefully there'll still be some parts I can rescue off it

I don't think the other driver is going to contest liability as he was coming from behind, so fingers crossed the claim wont take too long to sort.

A bit gutted though to be honest, I've spent years working on the car, and even though its a bit scruffy, it was a very straight and rust free shell.

I'm going to be in a rush to finish welding on my XAD now to get that back on the road in the meantime.

But I'm alive at least :)

Glad you're ok. shame, but accidents happen. I've got a 3dr bare gti shell you can have if you come get it - reshell yours in to it. you're a bit far though

cheers guys, luckily I've got a couple of 205s on the drive, so I'm sure the parts will get put to good use if things aren't too bent

You're right Tom, this was exactly 5 years and one month since the HGV incident (which is still not settled) hopefully this claim will go little smoother. I'm crossing my fingers that the beam you did for me isn't too shagged, not quite sure how much of a side impact the rear wheel took, I expect the trailing arm might've bent

We'll see how egg shaped the wheels are Dan! I don't expect I'll be able to fit them on anything now, I probably wont go down the wide arch route again in the foreseeable future, so they may well end up for sale.

As good luck would have it, I conveniently won a(nother) Roland Garros on ebay the other day, with MOT, that I'll be picking up this week. Every cloud and all that :)

You're safe. Cars can fixed or replaced, end of.

Glad you're in one piece - looked nasty, hope you have a smooth ride with the insurer(s).

S**t horrible to see something like that, cars you work on for ages become more than just pieces of metal. Glad you walked away ok. Hope the insurance get their hand in their pocket quickly!

The sad thing is the insurers will offer very little for the car which will no way compensate for the time and effort you have put into it.

Still, glad you are ok

I've got the car back home now, that's a load off my mind already. I think I should get back a reasonable amount for it, as it was on a modified classic policy, but we will see. I'm finally getting a courtesy car tomorrow too, after having to take two days off work as emergency holiday.

I got a strange look off the neighbour for having a smashed up car on the drive!
