Car Cover

Can anyone recommend a good car cover for the 205? Not planning to use it over the winter, and I can't get another car in the garage, so thinking it might fare better under a cover.

Cheers

I am looking out for the exact same thing, I have seen some on ebay for £50 and some for a couple of hundred ! I know you often get what you pay for but what I don't want to do is spend a couple of hundred on something that is the exact same for £50.

I'm always a bit dubious about car covers, mainly trapping moisture and that causing more problems than it just being sat outside, where yes it will get wet, but will also dry and have air circulate around it. The rain isn't going to get underneath the car when it's not moving.

I'm of the opinion to make sure all seals are good, and to give the paint work a good waxing.

Generally I'd be cautious about using one, you hear lots of horror stories

Same opinion here as notamonday fan, car cover will trap moisture and get it rusting imo

Plus it'll mess up your paintwork if your not super careful

Small Hilka ones on EBay are ideal and are soft enough not to damage the paint and are £20 or so.

Nice cheap version couple of old bed sheets over car followed by lots of bin liners taped together! Saves you lots of money to spend on beer! ;)

Careful not to put anything on top of cover as that will cause loads of probs, did it on a red Porsche once and the paint went white!

Have a look at the outdoor covers by Hamiltons. A lot of friends use them in hill climbing very good quality and breathable.

As said the "cheap" ones tend to not be made so they breath and can damage paint work as a result. ( For long storage)

I use a stormforce, supposed to be breathable but does trap moisture. I have a mini dehumidifier running in the car when its fitted. Ideally I wouldn't cover it, but it leaks like a sieve - must fix the sunroof drains!

Ok, thanks. I'll take a look at the Hamiltons ones, but I'm thinking perhaps I won't get a cover based on some of the comments here.

I'd like to get another garage, but Edinburgh isn't cheap and I can't really justify it... typically £150/mth to rent or £35k+ to buy. It's currently stored about 150 miles away at my brother-in-law's, but I will need to move it at some point (and start using it!).

Do you have any pictures of the first £49 one fitted to you car, Ken?

I find it odd they don't include a pic of the actual cover, or at least a cover of there's in another model to so how tailored they are.

The sort of indoor cover I am after is that 'hair net' material to keep dust off, reasonably elastic stef so it goes on without having to put straps underneath. Doesn't need to be waterproof.

I donot have any good photos of the car with the blue £49 cover fitted. This one will let in even a drip of water through to the car

These were taken over a year ago at the last storage place.

The photo below is of the more expensive cover but may give you an idea of the fit. These ones seem to be a slightly better fit.

I've just bought the halfords advanced one for my 205. But it lives in my workshop. Just stopping dust and and grinding sparks getting it.

If it's for use indoors the £10 ones on ebay are alright. They're not a snug fit, but keep the car clean. Also the fit might let a bit of air about it. A grinder would probably set it on fire right enough.

That blue one doesn't look like brilliant value for £49.

For indoor use I'm thinking I'm just as well to chuck a couple of sheets over it. I think that would be preferable over an outdoor type unless it had a soft lining.

Ive got the halfords advanced small sized one, its on a spare 205 in our garden.

There`s the tail end of a gale blowing and its survived perfectly. The maypole one on a merc is ripped to shreds.
