Gti6 205 Over Fuelling?

Recommended Posts

Have a look at these plugs:

I have not used the car for AGES, just ran it in the garage and stuff, only driven in anger last year to and back from MOT

Howerver I always though it were a little down on power and had never bothered changing them since converting to the 2.0 motor (unknown plugs)

So I bought a set the other day and changed them as I had always intended to but life got in the way.

I removed them and was surprised to find the plugs as above.

Would you suspect the CTS is at fault? It seems to run rich all the time.

not the right plugs for a 6 really, should be ek's from memory not ez.

if you just ran it up on the drive they look quite normal.

have you confirmed it runs rich on a gas tester or from poor mpg?

Yeah, I put BKR6EK's back in

It just seems to smell petrolly and I'd makes no odds if I unplug the CTS or not

That does sound like a dead CTS, do you have a multimeter?

Yup, but to be honest, I don't have the time to faff with putting it in different temperature water to measure it :(

Yup

Never tested that to be fair though - I should really take it to work with me shouldn't I...

More thought - is there actually any decent software/cables that can be used at home without spending much cash?

(As you know WP, I work at Pug, thus it's no disaster, apart from taking my car to work is a ball ache)

Tbh mate, testing the CTS in a kettle takes minutes and will quanitfy what that sensor is doing, all you need is a multimeter and a thermometer :)

I think from memory the CTS resistance values vs temperature are in the magenetti fault finding doc, ill see if i can find my copy...

I have yet to find a 'dead' cts - they simply get silted up in my experience, you clean them and they work fine. Well that or a combination with the wiring to and from...

I've seen several dead temp sensors, either open circuit or short circuit. You can test for either of those conditions with the sensor in place at ambient temperature in about two seconds.

Could you please eleborate or point me in the direction of those test instructions? :)

Get a read on what the ambient temperature is, use the chart i posted to get an expected resistance reading, set your multimeter to ohms, then attach the probes to the pins on the sender.

Easy as peas. :)

Whoops. Apologies. Images are blocked on my work machine so I missed that when I scrolled down.

Thanks. I'll take a look later :)
